Arthur ready to launch new era

CricketSouth Africa coach Mickey Arthur is to turn to the nation's youth after suffering convincing ODI defeats.

After losing the first one-day international by just 20 runs, the Proteas have been played off the park in the next two, losing by ten wickets at Trent Bridge and 126 runs at the Brit Oval as England sealed the series victory at the earliest opportunity.

South Africa are ranked as the second-best side in the world but their performances on the field have been far from it, and Arthur is set to wield the axe and give the younger players the chance to make a name for themselves.

"It's up to the youngsters in the next two games to stick their hands up and stake a claim," Arthur said.

"I've got a dressing room that is a little bit down in confidence. But we'll sit down and hammer home the basics again.

"It's up to us to bring those (young) guys forward as quickly as we possibly can and the starting point for me is Lord's.

"That could be the starting point of a new generation for the South African one-day side. That's how we've got to look at it, and how I'm trying to package it."
