Mohammad Asif will not be able to face England in Dubai after a previous drugs arrest and Kamran Akmal has been left out of the squad.

The 27-year-old seamer was arrested for possession of opium at Dubai airport in June 2008 and is now banned from entering the country, meaning he will miss the two one-day internationals against England on February 19 and 20.

He spent 19 days in detention but was eventually released without charge and a Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman revealed they tried to sort out the issue but to no avail.

He said: "We tried to get clearance for him from the authorities in Dubai so that he could play as he is our key bowler but it didn't work out."

Akmal has missed out on selection due to a below-par shoeing with the gloves in Australia, where several chances went begging as the Asians lost every one of their nine matched on tour Down Under.

Opening batsman Salman Butt has also been omitted and regular Twenty20 captain Shahid Afridi will miss the first match due to a ban for ball-tampering.

Pakistan squad: Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat, Khalid Latif, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik (captain), Shahid Afridi, Yasir Arafat, Abdul Razzaq, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Umar Gul, Mohammad Talha, Fawad Alam, Wahab Riaz, Saeed Ajmal.
