Aussies to honour former team-mate's wife

CricketThe Australian cricket team will wear pink ribbons in St Vincent on Tuesday in tribute to Glenn McGrath's late wife Jane.

The 42-year-old lost her battle with cancer on Sunday after a courageous 10-year battle that saw her fight off both breast and bone cancer after being diagnosed back in 1997.

The Aussies take on the West Indies in the first one-day international on Tuesday and skipper Ricky Ponting paid tribute to his former team-mate's wife.

"Jane was a wonderful person who fought and maintained grace and dignity during her long-term illness," he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"She was an exceptionally friendly and lovely person who displayed great courage and stoicism during her illness. She was a tremendous mother to James and Holly and shared a very special and deep relationship with Glenn in the time they had together.

"All of us are thinking about Glenn and their children at this very sad time. We all wish to convey that our best wishes go with him and to know our heartfelt sympathies are with the family at this time.

"Jane will be very fondly remembered by all of us."

McGrath, who has now retired from international cricket but played in the recent lucrative IPL, wants to make sure that his two young children remember their mother.

"This is also a very tough time for our children James and Holly," he said in a statement. "I am grateful they were able to spend the time they had with their mother. Both are only young but as the years pass and they grow older I will ensure that they never forget how much she loved them."
