England captain Andrew Strauss has confirmed seamer Stuart Broad will be fit for the first Test with Sri Lanka in Galle on Monday.

The Nottinghamshire paceman was a doubt with an ankle injury he picked up tripping over a boundary rope ahead of a warm-up game with a Sri Lankan Board XI last week.

He was pulled out of that game but returned for the second warm-up match against the Sri Lanka Development XI, bowling 23 overs and taking four wickets.

He then missed training on Saturday in what has described by the England camp as a 'precautionary measure'.

However, Strauss allayed any fears over Broad's fitness, revealing he is set to take his place in the England XI for the clash with Mahela Jayawardene 's men on Monday.

"He is absolutely fine, no concerns," Strauss told the BBC.

"He will have a little bowl today [Sunday] but he will be fine."
