England players lured by IPL money

CricketHalf of England's cricketers have revealed they would quit international cricket to play in the Indian Premier League.

The Professional Cricketers' Association conducted a survey before the start of this season and questioned a total of 334 players and obviously before the announcement of England's lucrative Twenty20 series against an all-star West Indies XI in November.

The Twenty20 game has dominated the cricketing world over the last few months following the introduction of the cash-rich IPL and rebel Indian Cricket League to the sport's calendar.

And England's players would consider retiring from the international arena to get their hands on some of the vasts amounts of money flowing into the game.

"The current imbalance between remuneration for Twenty20 cricket and the longer forms of the game does present a very real threat to the existing fabric of the game," the PCS report states.

"The financial rewards offered by the Indian leagues will entice players to retire early from county and international cricket - and senior players at that. The impact on the strength of our international sides would be huge.

"This would have the potential to significantly devalue our TV rights as well as reducing the attraction of English cricket to the fans."
