ICC remain hopeful over Champions Trophy

CricketThe ICC say they expect the Champions Trophy to take place ahead of crunch talks on Friday, which could lead to a venue switch.

England, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia have all expressed fears over security ahead of the event, which is due to take place in Pakistan from September 12.

The Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) are understood to have urged its players not to go to Pakistan, adding to speculation that the tournament may well now be switched to Sri Lanka.

The International Cricket Council's chief executive, Haroon Lorgat, had recently tried to play down a change in venue, but has not ruled out the prospect.

Lorgat said: "It is possible to postpone, to relocate or to add a ninth or 10th team but at this point in time we have no indication to the contrary.

"The tournament is going ahead, the teams have not withdrawn and we expect the best teams to participate."
