Jacob Oram hit 83 from just 40 balls as New Zealand hammered Bangladesh by 146 runs in the first one-day international in Napier.
The giant all-rounder smashed eight fours and five sixes in his innings and shared a partnership of 123 with Neil Broom (71) in just 11.1 overs as the Black Caps amassed 336-9 in their 50 overs.
There were also significant contributions from Peter Ingram, who made 69 and Ross Taylor with 51, while Shafiul Islam took 4-68 from his 10 overs.
The minnows of world cricket never looked like reaching their target and, despite an opening partnership of 71 between Tamim Iqbal, who hit a rapid 62 from 69 deliveries, and Imrul Kayes (33), they were dismissed for just 190 in 43.5 overs.
The middle order was blown away by skipper Daniel Vettori, who took 3-33, while Andy McKay, Martin Guptill and Oram himself each took two wickets in a one-sided contest.
Daryl Tuffey took the other wicket to fall while wicket-keeper Brendon McCullum claimed five catches as the ball found the edge with regularity.
The Kiwis were 187-6 at one stage but Oram's devastating knock changed the face of the game and has given the hosts a 1-0 lead going into the second match of the series in Dunedin on Sunday.
