Seamer plays down England recall hopes

Steve Harmison does not expect a recall to the England side for the first Ashes Test, despite his impressive bowling against Australia.

The Durham seamer has been facing the Aussies for England Lions at Worcester's New Road in the tourists' final warm-up game before the Ashes action gets underway for real in Cardiff on Wednesday. And, despite dismissing opener Phillip Hughes and then skipper Ricky Ponting on Friday, Harmison does not anticipate a promotion into the first-team.

"I have made it difficult for the selectors," Harmison said. "But I don't think they will pick me for Cardiff."

He added: "I think England are going to play two spinners in that game so I don't fit into that plan.

"I fully understand if that is the case. I will go back and play for Durham, work hard and try again for Lord's.

"If I still don't get in then, they know I'm fit and causing Australia problems if and when they need me. They know what I'm about but if they don't pick me, it will probably mean England are winning the series."
