Seamer ruled out of England ODI

CricketRyan Sidebottom will play no part in England's opening One-Day International against South Africa because of injury.

The Nottinghamshire seamer has been struggling with a hip problem but the England selectors were hopeful earlier in the week that he would be available for the Headingley clash.

Sidebottom though was unable to bowl in the nets on Thursday and has been ruled out of the opening ODI, he will now be monitored to see if he is fit enough for the second match, which takes place at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.

As for the batting line-up, captain Kevin Pietersen has promoted Owais Shah to number three after claiming the Essex man was 'wasted' further down the order. Ian Bell is expected to open the batting with recalled wicketkeeper Matt Prior, which means Pietersen will battle at four.

Former captain Paul Collingwood is unavailable for selection, having been banned for four ODI's due to a slow over rate against New Zealand.
