Fast bowler Chaminda Vaas has denied claims by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that he is retiring from Test cricket with immediate effect.
SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga revealed that 35-year-old Vaas, who has taken 354 wickets in 110 Tests over the past 15 years, informed selection chairman Ashantha de Mel of his decision earlier in the week. Vaas is now set to focus his attentions on the one-day and Twenty20 aspect of the game.
"Chaminda told him that he wants to concentrate on ODI's and T20's in the future and he will be forwarding an official letter to that effect when he returns from abroad," Ranatunga told Reuters.
"Sri Lanka Cricket's interim committee will also speak to him about his future and the role he can play in shaping Sri Lanka cricket in the future," he added.
However, Vaas responded to the news of his retirement by revealing that he had not made "any such decision yet".
