Danny Butterfield is set to continue as a makeshift striker for the Eagles alongside a patched-up Alan Lee against Scunthorpe.

The pacy right-back has struck up an effective understanding with the big ex-Ipswich frontman since being asked to play up front following Victor Moses' switch to Wigan.

Butterfield could hardly be dropped after recording a memorable six-minute hat-trick in Tuesday night's FA Cup win over Wolves, but Stern John is available again after he returned from his loan spell at Portman Road.

Lee needed running repairs after suffering a head injury against Wolves but should be fit to start.

Left-back Lee Hills and winger Kieron Cadogan also return after being cup-tied.

Alassane N'Diaye and Johnny Ertl remain doubts with muscle injuries and Paddy McCarthy is a long-term absentee with a shoulder injury.
