Keeper ready for fight

C PalacePalace keeper Darryl Flahavan says he will not accept sitting on the bench for the entire season and wants to be number one.

Flahavan came through 90 minutes for the side in the Carling Cup this week and he is hoping he can push his way into the Championship first team.

He told the Advertiser: "When I spoke to the gaffer he told me straight what was happening. He wanted me to come in as competition and fight with Julian [Speroni] for the shirt.

"I knew that I wouldn't start against Watford which I didn't have a problem with, but I like a challenge.

"Julian's a quality goalkeeper and to work with that everyday can only improve me.

"I'm not here to just accept that I'm not playing I want to work hard. I think if I get my head down and wait for my chance I'm confident I can do the job."
