The 17-year-old impressed last season and boss Neil Warnock is keen to secure his future for the long term.
"We are finalising a deal with Sean to commit himself for the next three or four years," Warnock revealed. "We can't expect too much of him or the other young lads who came into the side last year, but Sean's trained hard in pre-season and he helped turn last season around.
"I expect him to have a big contribution and to get in the Republic squad was a tremendous boost for him."
