Palace get tough over Watson

C PalaceBirmingham are rivalling QPR for Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson but both clubs have been told to increase their offers.

The Eagles want to make the 23-year-old their highest-paid player but Watson sees his future elsewhere and looked set for a switch to Loftus Road this summer.

However, Birmingham boss Alex McLeish is looking for a partner for Lee Carsley in the centre of midfield and his move has complicated matters for Rangers.

Palace boss Neil Warnock told the South London Press: "We've offered Ben the biggest contract at the club at the moment, but he and his agent have made it clear they won't sign.

"QPR and Birmingham have made good offers, but they are short of our valuation. We'll have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks."
