Kevin Phillips hopes to form a deadly Crystal Palace strikeforce with Glenn Murray.

Eagles manager Ian Holloway sprung a surprise when he raided his former club Blackpool for 39-year-old Phillips on transfer deadline day.

The former England striker was handed his debut as a half-time substitute on Saturday with Palace trailing to south London rivals Charlton, and he helped spark a turnaround as two goals from Murray secured a dramatic 2-1 victory.

"I've watched Glenn many times this season and he's a fantastic goalscorer and a good target man," said Phillips.

"It's not generally the way the manager plays, he likes to play with one up top and one in and around him, but he changed to 4-4-2 in the second half and I naturally drop in the hole.

"I was delighted to see Glenn get his two goals, I was urging him on to get his hat-trick. But I'm glad I could contribute. It was a really good win and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season."
