Portuguese defender back for more.

C PalaceBenfica defender Jose Fonte has signed for Palace in a three-year deal having impressed last season on loan.

Fonte will be returning to Selhurst Park for an undisclosed fee, after making 26 appearances when loaned out by Benfica. The fans favourite played an important part in helping the Eagles make the play-offs.

The former Sporting Lisbon player did not feature in Benfica's long-term plans and both clubs have been busy in recent weeks negotiating a fee for the 24-year-old.

The highly-rated defender, who has won three Portugal under-21 caps, says he is delighted to have secured a permanent move to Selhurst Park.

"My wish was always to stay at Palace," Fonte told the Croydon Advertiser.

"I've made great friends here and I get along with everyone at the club.

"I love the club, so it's good to be back here. I'm very happy."

Fonte is the older brother of Arsenal's Rui Fonte who is knocking on the first-team door at The Emirates Stadium.
