Warnock on Watson race

C PalaceQPR are "leading the race" for Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson but at least two more clubs are eyeing a deal.

The 22-year-old is a top target for R's chief Iain Dowie as he tries to deliver Premier League football for the first time since 1996.

However, Eagles boss Neil Warnock claims Rangers' interest is by no means exclusive.

Warnock told the Croydon Advertiser: "Ben has rejected our contract offer which would have made him the highest-paid player at the club and his agent is hinting to me that he might want to try something new.

"QPR are leading the race, but two or three clubs have made firm enquiries about him."

Dowie knows all about Watson's abilities following his spell in charge at Selhurst Park between 2003 and 2006.
