Nigel Clough singled Steve Davies out for special praise after the 3-0 win at Peterborough and says he can have a big impact for Derby.

The 22-year-old has been hampered by hamstring and ankle problems throughout most of this season, but he impressed in an hour-long run-out at London Road on Saturday. Davies marked his first start in five months with the Rams' opener from the penalty spot at the end of the first half and Clough was delighted with his display.

The Rams boss told the Derby Telegraph: "The hour he was on the pitch was probably the highlight for us.

"He showed again what a good player he is and what we have been missing while he has been out injured.

"It's good to have him back.

"He can create and he can score. He caused Peterborough problems, he was a constant threat.

"He could have had two or three goals himself in the first half from chances and half chances.

"Now he has to get a run of games. He needs to get past the 60-minute mark. He needs to get fitter and stronger and he will only do that through staying fit and playing games.

"I have said before and will continue to say, if he keeps himself fit and healthy and puts a run of games together, he can be a vital player for us and someone who can make a big impact in this division."
