Defender waits on groin operation

DerbyDerby defender Martin Albrechtsen may take advantage of a hamstring injury to have a groin operation during the international break.

The summer signing from West Brom has been suffering with the groin problem that could need surgery to completely fix but he has been putting that off so he can play.

Now though he has pulled a hamstring that will keep him out for at least 10 days so there is an opportunity to do the groin operation.

Rams boss Paul Jewell said: "Martin's hamstring is not too bad but he may well need a groin operation. We will know more this week.

"There is no tear in the hamstring - the scan was clear - but it will be a bit longer before he is back and he has had an ongoing groin problem. So we have got decisions to make but we can make them with a clear head."
