Jewell denies defender move

DerbyDerby boss Paul Jewell has dismissed speculation that he is about to sell defender Dean Leacock to Preston.

As the transfer window draws to a close the speculation about players moving on is reaching fever pitch but Jewell believes the Leacock link is just a rumour.

He told the Derby Telegraph: "I was told that Alan Irvine [Preston's manager] was going to ring me three weeks ago, he has not called me back and I don't know what that was about.

"I have not heard anything from Preston about Dean Leacock and we are not overloaded for centre-halves at the moment so unless it is a good offer, if there is an offer, or unless Dean wants to go, he will be staying here."
