Jewell on new keeper hunt

DerbyPaul Jewell has admitted he needs goalkeeper cover for Roy Carroll at Derby following Stephen Bywater's proposed move to Tottenham.

The Rams boss confirmed on Thursday that 27-year-old Bywater, who signed from West Ham on loan in August 2006 before making the move permanent for £375,000, is all set to move to White Hart Lane for £200,000 after 62 appearances at Pride Park.

Therefore with Carroll his number one, Jewell requires another custodian given that second-choice, Wales international Lewis Price is facing several weeks out following a cartilage operation.

Jewell told the Derby Telegraph: "Lewis Price has had a cartilage operation so we will need some cover for Roy and will probably have to get a keeper in on loan.

"Stephen is going to Tottenham and we wish him well," Jewell confirmed on Thursday.

"Tottenham came in with a bid and obviously Stephen is very keen to go which is fully understandable.

"I would like to have kept Stephen but it is a move that appeals to him so he will be moving to them over the next couple of days, subject to a medical."
