Jewell snaps up targets

DerbyPaul Jewell has snapped up Nathan Ellington and Jordan Stewart from Watford and agreed a deal with Doncaster for Paul Green.

The Rams boss always said it would be a busy summer on the transfer front as he built a side capable of mounting a title challenge in the Championship and it has certainly started that way.

Ellington has signed on a season-long loan deal with the agreement in place for a permanent move if all parties agree and Jewell is confident he will be able to get the best out of his former Wigan striker.

"Nathan is a player I know a lot about and I think this is a really exciting signing for us," he said. "At his best, he can be the most lethal striker in the Championship. He has produced that form for me before, scoring 24 goals in a season at Wigan to get us promoted to the Premier League.

"I believe I can get Nathan to reproduce that form for Derby County and, if he does, he has the potential to be the best signing of the summer in this division," Jewell told the Derby Telegraph.

"He has everything. He's powerful, quick, great in the air and is a magnificent finisher. I can't wait to work with him again and get him back to producing the type of football I know he can."
