Jewell vows to get it right

DerbyDerby manager Paul Jewell believes he can turn the club around but believes it has to be done quickly to save his job.

The Rams extended their woeful run of 33 league games without a win following an opening-day defeat to Doncaster but Jewell believes it will just take time for the club to come good again.

"The wolves will be at the door already because of what happened last season. I fully understand that and I am not hiding away from it," said Jewell.

"If I had taken the job in the summer and put together the team we have got, people would be saying 'it will take time'.

"I am aware that we need to gel pretty quickly. Last year we were playing games that everyone thought we couldn't win but I know there are a lot of games we can win this season.

"We just need one result and I think we can go on a decent run.

"But talking about it and doing it are two different things.

"If we lose our head and start moping around the place, we will be struggling. I have got great confidence in the team.

"We should be doing better - of course we should - but we will get better."

Jewell will be hoping the fightback can begin when Derby take on Lincoln in the Carling Cup first round at Pride Park on Tuesday.
