Derby boss Nigel Clough is still hoping to sign Blackpool defender Shaun Barker but appears unwilling to pay £1m for him.
The offer on the table is for £400,000 rising by a further £100,000 depending on appearances but that appears to be nowhere near enough.
Chairman of football Adam Pearson has denied that the club have made an offer of £750,000 for the player and Clough appears very reluctant to go any higher. Clough remains keen on Barker but will not be willing to pay any price.
"I'm not quite sure what the situation is with that one," he told the Telegraph.
"But I think £1m for a centre-half is an awful lot of money to pay, so we will have to see where that goes."
