Rams pair poised for starts

Derby's summer signings Leon Best and Omar Mascarell could make their first competitive starts for the club in the Capital One Cup first-round tie at Carlisle.

Striker Best and midfielder Mascarell, on loan from Real Madrid, were both second-half substitutes in Derby's opening-day Sky Bet Championship win against Rotherham.

Defender Jake Buxton, who started at the weekend after recovering from a hip flexor problem, could be rested but Zac Whitbread (rib) may feature after he was an unused substitute.

Midfielder George Thorne (cruciate knee ligament) is a long-term absentee, while defender Mark O'Brien remains doubtful after missing out on Saturday due to an ankle injury.
