Rams pull out of midfielder race

DerbyDerby have pulled out of the race to sign Swansea's Dutch star Ferrie Bodde leaving the way clear for Middlesbrough or West Brom.

Boro are known to have held talks with Swansea about the 26-year-old moving from South Wales to the Riverside but it had appeared that Derby were well ahead in the race to sign him and West Brom were also interested. Boro or the Baggies could now be back in business after Derby pulled out of a deal claiming the goal-posts have been moved.

Derby chairman of football Adam Pearson said: "The goal-posts have moved - the price has gone up and we are not prepared to pay it. This is not acceptable. We will not be held to ransom.

"We have formally withdrawn our offer and will watch the situation. It is disappointing because negotiations have been going on for a long time. We felt a deal could be done and the player has said he wants to come to Derby County."

Swansea boss Roberto Martinez is known to want the sage brought to a swift conclusion.
