Derby County have signed defender Russell Anderson after his contract at Sunderland was cancelled earlier in the week.

Anderson, 31, has signed a short term contract at Pride Park for the rest of the season and boss Nigel Clough was delighted to have snapped up the former Aberdeen stopper.

He said: "He is the type of character we are looking to add to the squad,

"Russell is an excellent defender who brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience.

"He played in the Championship last season for Burnley, so he knows what it takes to compete in this division.

"With Dean Leacock and Miles Addison both carrying injuries it is important to bring in some cover and boost our numbers."
