Savage talk played down

DerbyPaul Jewell says Robbie Savage still has a future at Derby, while trialist John Oster has snubbed the offer of a deal at Pride Park.

Midfield man Savage has not featured in the Rams' last two pre-season games, including the 1-0 win at Rushden & Diamonds on Tuesday in which Nathan Ellington bagged the winning goal.

However, Jewell insists nothing should be read into that fact and played down suggestions the player could be offloaded in a summer of huge changes during which 11 new faces have already arrived.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Wales international Oster decided to spurn the chance of staying at Derby, despite featuring in four pre-season games.

Jewell told the club website: "We did offer John something but it wasn't acceptable to him. He's got other irons in the fire, so it's one we'll move away from now."
