Paul Dickov praised the professional nature of Doncaster's display after his side secured a 1-0 win at struggling Colchester.

Kyle Bennett's well-taken goal midway through the second half gave Rovers their second successive away league win of the season.

"It was a terrific away win for us and very professional as well," said the Doncaster boss. "I was a little bit disappointed that we didn't score more goals. But in terms of our overall performance, I thought that we were fantastic.

"I thought that we started well in the first 10 or 15 minutes and moved the ball around really well.

"The atmosphere changed after that but after half-time we stepped up again and I thought we were worthy winners.

"When we create chances, we don't just want to pass the ball without any purpose.

"Our goal came at an important time and we sustained a bit of pressure after that.

"It was a great finish from Kyle and I thought we could have scored more but that's no disrespect to Colchester - they're a good team.

"For us to put that performance in and keep a clean sheet against them was really pleasing."

Colchester manager Joe Dunne was disappointed with the nature of Bennett's winner, which left the U's with only one point from their opening four league games.

He said: "The manner of the goal that we conceded was disappointing.

"Both managers will probably tell you that it was an astute game and for the purists, it probably wasn't that great to watch. But tactically and from a manager's point of view, it was very tight.

"One goal was always going to be the difference and unfortunately it's gone against us.

"We thought the ball was kicked out of Sam Walker's hands but a couple of our players turned our back on the ball.

"Chances were at a premium for both teams but the goal knocked us back a bit.

"Doncaster had two or three more chances after that but it was a very close game with little space in midfield to play.

"It was very difficult for us to get back into the game after we had conceded.

"We need to pick ourselves up and go again, next weekend."
