Rovers made to wait on defender deal

DoncasterSean O'Driscoll admits Doncaster are waiting to hear whether Manchester City centre-back Matt Mills will join Rovers.

The defender spent much of last season on loan at the Keepmoat Stadium and O'Driscoll has made a permanent bid to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis.

Mills seemed destined for South Yorkshire when the two clubs agreed a £300,000 fee during Sven Goran Eriksson's time in charge at Eastlands, but with things changing at City, Mills is now waiting to see if he has a future with the Premier League outfit.

O'Driscoll said: "Mark Hughes has come in as manager and, rightly so, wants to assess the whole of his squad. Matt is a contracted player with Manchester City.

"Until they get back from their German tour at the weekend, or early next week, nothing will move further forward. I just think that everybody is being sensibly patient at this particular time."
