Starlet eyes Hird patch

DoncasterDoncaster youngster Craig Nelthorpe is determined to use his loan spell at Gateshead as a springboard to the first team.

The 21-year-old left-sided player is hoping to emulate Sam Hird who went to Grimsby last term before breaking into boss Sean O'Driscoll's plans.

"I look at Sam Hird who went on loan and did not look like breaking through here, but then his chance came and now he is a first-team regular," Nelthorpe told the club's official website.

"It's going well at the moment at Gateshead and I'm getting games, playing in the position I like on the left flank.

"I'm putting the work in, getting crosses over and working hard at my game."
