Striker doubtful for Rams trip

DoncasterNew striker Darren Byfield is racing to be fit for Doncaster's Championship opener at Derby County on Saturday due to a hernia injury.

Byfield joined Rovers in the summer following his release by Bristol City but may be forced to wait to make his competitive debut after struggling to overcome the problem.

His absence will provide boss Sean O'Drsicoll with a selection problem at Pride Park, as Jason Price and Sean McDaid are also missing due to respective foot and dislocated knee problems.

John Spicer, Tomi Ameobi, Jos van Nieuwstadt and James Chambers should all make their debuts for Rovers, while defender Matt Mills should continue in the side after making his loan move from Manchester City last season into a permanent switch in the summer.
