Boss Peter Houston has decided against renewing his contract and will leave Dundee United when his deal comes to an end in the summer.
Houston, who has recently been linked to Championship club Blackpool, has decided not to extend his contract which expires in June.
Club chairman Stephen Thompson had made an attempt to keep Houston at Tannadice with a new deal, but the offer was believed to be on reduced terms.
Houston has been Terrors boss since replacing Craig Levein in December 2009, and a few months later he guided them to only their second ever Scottish Cup success, in a 3-0 win over Ross County at Hampden Park.
Houston was quick to thank everyone at the club, saying: "It is with sadness that I have arrived at this decision, but feel that I have worked with the board to help them financially to reduce the debts.
"I look forward to working with everyone at the Club to ensure we finish top six again, as we have done for the last three years."
Earlier in the week, Houston was granted permission to speak with Blackpool but a deal doesn't appear likely now he has announced to stay at Tannadice until the end of the season.
