The 23-year-old himself suggested last week that maybe it was too early for him to make the step up, and it would appear that United boss Levein agrees.
"People start to speculate about who has been playing well and when that happens Scott's name is going to come into the equation," Levein said.
"He has taken a fairly big step coming up from the First Division and the impressive thing for me is that he has managed to stay in our team despite the huge amount of competition we have.
"I am only interested in Scott playing well for Dundee United and it might be better for him if he just gets on with his job here this season and play as many games as he can.
"It's a credit to the lad that people are even mentioning his name in connection with Scotland, although I think he's a wee bit away from that yet."
