Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld feels he is too young to leave the club at the moment and wants more experience in Dutch football.

The 23-year-old has been with the Amsterdam giants since 2008 and has become an integral part of the club's rearguard.

He has also won 20 caps for Belgium and is just one of a number of talented Belgian stars who ply their trade outside of their homeland.

The former Germinal Beerschot star has been linked with both Tottenham and Newcastle United in recent times but the talented centre-half is not yet ready to follow the example of a couple of his compatriots who play their football in north London.

"Thomas Vermaelen was almost 24 when he left Ajax for Arsenal, while Jan Vertonghen is two years older than I am, and has only just left," he said.

"So if I'd follow in their footsteps, I would not leave Ajax in the upcoming summer, but in the year after that. I still have plenty of time to further develop and follow the same path as them."
