FC Twente have made Brazilian defender Douglas available for transfer as Newcastle and Inter Milan join the growing list of suitors.

The centre-half was expected to join Newcastle in the last transfer window before the deal fell through as Twente decided to keep hold of him.

The 24-year-old's contract runs out at the end of the season and the Dutch outfit had hoped they might persuade him to sign a new deal before the January window opened.

However, talks have broken down and manager Steve McClaren is thought to have sanctioned the sale of Douglas, rather than let him leave for nothing at the end of the campaign.

Newcastle are thought to have reignited their interest as a result but face competition from Reading and Inter Milan according to reports in Holland.
