Everton defender Leighton Baines says his club and England team-mate Ross Barkley must be given time to develop into a top player.
Barkley has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season so far for the Blues and is tipped to be in England's World Cup squad for Brazil this summer, alongside Baines.
The 20-year-old midfielder has earned rave reviews for some of his performances but Baines says the level of expectation on his shoulders should not be too high.
He told Sky Sports: "Ross has burst on to the scene and the spotlight was thrust upon him straight away. He is a top player and a top talent for the country.
"We sometimes have a tendency to do that with young players. I think that it is important that we sometimes give them a bit of time and leeway to develop."
