Everton boss Roberto Martinez says that on-loan Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu is exceeding expectations at the club.
Prior to the weekend the Catalan prodigy had made 10 appearances but only two starts - in the Capital One Cup - and was desperate to get a run out from the start.
The 19-year-old was given his Premier League debut in the win over Stoke and excelled in the victory, finding the back of the net and terrorising the Stoke defence on a regular basis.
Martinez says he did not expect the teenager to be competing for a place in his starting line-up until the new year.
"His progress has been quicker than I expected," said the manager.
"His talent is there for everyone to see; he is an exciting footballer and when you see him on the ball you know something is going to happen.
"It was always going to be the case adapting to the British style and physicality of the league would take a few months but I never expected him to be ready to play in the league until January or February.
"It is safe to say Gerard has exceeded my expectations in terms of how quickly he has adapted and has become someone very important to the side."
