Everton boss David Moyes has apparently won the race to sign Turkish midfielder Mehmet Aurelio on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old holding player is on a free from Fenerbahce and would be able to come in as a replacement for Lee Carsley who left the club at the end of last season and joined Birmingham.

Aurelio's agent claimed that his client is set for a new challenge, although he did not name the Premiership club. Newcastle United and Werder Bremen have both been linked but Everton appear to have won the race.

Pedro Pastor told Estadio Deportivo: "We're going to take a new course of action and will go to the Premier League."
