Boss praises Everton character

Everton boss Roberto Martinez said he was delighted with the character shown by his side in the goalless draw with Spurs on Sunday.

The point sees Everton drop to seventh in the Premier League table but they remain in touching distance of the top after 10 games, sitting just six points behind leaders Arsenal.

Everton were not really at the races in the first half on Sunday but fought back in the second 45 minutes and Martinez believes it was a fair point against an expensively assembled side.

He said: "In the first half Spurs had the initiative in the game. We were good defensively but we lost the ball too cheaply. In the second half we were completely different, imposed ourselves and forced Spurs to defend in their own half.

"It was a very level game but what I will take from it is our character."
