Club hopeful over defender deal

Everton are hopeful that centre half Sylvain Distin will put pen to paper over a new contract in the near future.

The 34-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and could walk away for nothing and, understandably, Everton officials are anxious for that not to happen.

Talks have been underway for a number of months, according to the Daily Post, and the club remain confident that they are closing in on an agreement to ensure Distin signs a new deal.

The player himself has said he wants to stay and, with a flourishing partnership alongside John Heitinga, results have certainly improved during the second half of the campaign.

A £5.3m signing from Portsmouth back in 2009 Distin is one of the first names on the team sheet week in week out and boss David Moyes would be very reluctant to see him move on.
