Coleman set to be offered new deal

Last Updated: Wed, 19 Mar 2014 10:39

Everton are set to offer defender Seamus Coleman a new long-term contract to secure his future at Goodison Park.

The Republic of Ireland international has had another impressive season for the Toffees and has hit seven goals in all competitions for Roberto Martinez's side after being encouraged to attack as much as possible from right-back.

The 25-year-old's displays have apparently caught the attention of several top clubs with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United all believed to be keeping a close eye on him.

Former Everton manager David Moyes snapped up Coleman from Irish League side Sligo Rovers in a bargain deal of just £60,000 in January 2009 and he has gone on to exceed all expectations, establishing himself as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League over the past few years.

Martinez says the club will offer him new terms in the summer in order to ward off any unwelcome interest from elsewhere.

He said: "We won't offer encouragement to any club over Seamus. He is on a long-term contract and we want to ensure we grow together and we need players like Seamus.

"Yes, it is the intention to offer him a new contract. We are already thinking about Seamus."
