Don't write us off - Distin

Despite a damaging defeat to Tottenham on Sunday Everton are still in the race for Champions League places according to Sylvain Distin.

Roberto Martinez's men slipped five points behind fourth placed Liverpool with the defeat to Spurs on over the weekend but Distin claims they are still in contention and should not be ruled out.

The France ace believes it is so tight at the top of the table that anything can happen this season and he is not ruling anything out at either the top or the bottom of the table.

He said: "Have you seen how many teams since the start of the season have been written off and then come back?

"Every time you lose people write you off. Every time you win you're back in the race. It doesn't interest us. If it did we should stop playing football right now, shouldn't we?

"One game doesn't define your season, otherwise you would pick every time you win or every time you lose and say that's the one that did it.

"Have you seen the results in this league? Did you see Arsenal the other day? The reality is this is an amazing league and anything can happen any single week.

The most frustrating thing is that Tottenham are a direct opponent in the race for a European place. If we win that game it would have given us a bit more protection.

"Now it's going to be more difficult. We didn't score and they did with their only chance. It's difficult to take. But there are plenty more points to take."
