Double striker boost

EvertonJames Vaughan and Victor Anichebe came through a reserve match on Tuesday and are itching to get back into first-team action.

Both strikers will be hoping their contribution to a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough in Widnes will have caught the eye of manager David Moyes.

Anichebe helped create the first goal, scored by Dan Gosling, and Vaughan himself netted the second but, like the first team, the reserves let a two-goal lead slip and had to settle for a point.

Both players have been restricted to just two starts each this season because of niggling knocks and the manager's preference for Yakubu and Louis Saha up front, but after a stuttering start to the season they will be hoping to get their chance in the near future.
