Roberto Martinez will be without Darron Gibson against Hull following cruciate ligament surgery and Steven Pienaar is a doubt.

Gibson picked up the injury whilst on a return to the Republic of Ireland side in midweek and will be lucky if he is seen again this season following his operation, Gareth Barry is almost certain to play in his absence.

South African Pienaar has returned to full training after shaking off a hamstring injury but the weekend may come too early for him and Paraguay international defender Antolin Alcaraz, who has yet to feature since a pre-season outing at Accrington, is also closing in on a return but not in time for this weekend.

Apostolos Vellios picked up a knock whilst playing for Greece Under-21s and will not feature against the Tigers.
