Everton are believed to be tracking Heerenveen striker Alfred Finnbogason as they consider replacements for Nikica Jelavic.
The Toffees were thought to be open to the possibility of allowing Croatia international Jelavic to leave Goodison Park this summer after a disappointing return of two goals from 27 Premier League outings last season.
Hamburg were thought to be interested in Jelavic but have yet to make an offer and Roberto Martinez looks happy to keep the former Rangers hitman, who has scored three times in pre-season.
Should Hamburg make an offer that was too good to turn down then Everton will reportedly step up their interest in Iceland international Finnbogason.
The 24-year-old scored 24 goals in 31 Eredivisie appearances last season and started this term with a bang, scoring twice and providing two assists in Heerenveen's 4-2 win over AZ Alkmaar last weekend.
The Dutch club are desperate to keep Finnbogason but could be reluctantly willing to accept an offer of £5million, according to reports.
