Everton linked with midfielder

Last Updated: Wed, 15 Jan 2014 13:21

Roberto Martinez is being linked with a move for Porto midfielder Fernando but faces competition from home and abroad to land him.

The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Italy, with Napoli said to be very keen, but they are not alone and domestically both Manchester United and cross city rivals Liverpool have also been linked.

Porto want the 26-year-old to agree a new contract in Portugal, as his current one runs out in the summer so right now he could walk away for a fraction of what he is worth, and his agent Antonio Araujo, has suggested they are close to agreeing an extension with the Blue and Whites.

Fernando has been linked for some time but since the original rumour Everton have landed former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady from Russian side Spartak Moscow, so their interest may well be on the wane.
