Everton in race for German ace

Everton are said to be in a race with Spurs to land German international striker Lukas Podolski during the transfer window.

The 23-year-old has failed to break into the Bayern Munich first team on a regular basis and there is now talk that he will leave the Allianz Arena when the transfer window opens in January.

The international is rated in the £10million bracket and a move looks to be on the cards after he was openly criticised by Bayern's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge for his selfish attitude.

Rummenigge said: "I do not understand what he wants. I demand that he is committed to Bayern and does everything he can to help the club. He has a contract until June 2010 - he should focus on that."
