Zenit St Petersburg have joined the race to sign Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini as the January window approaches.

The 25-year-old has shot to prominence this season with some world-class performances for the Toffees, helping himself to eight goals in 15 games.

His level of performance has not gone unnoticed as the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on the big midfielder.

Zenit have spent big over the last year bringing in some top names in world football - Brazilian Hulk shocked many by signing during in the summer from Porto.

Fellaini could be swayed by the fact two of his international team-mates play for the side currently sitting in third place in the Russian Premier League - Axel Witsel and Nicolas Lombaerts.

The Belgian is contracted to the Merseyside club until 2015 but Everton will be forced to sell if the right offer comes in.

A Zenit source told LifeSports: "The management expect to strengthen midfield. The signings will be of high quality. Belgium international Marouane Fellaini is on the list. He has clearly proved himself for Everton."
