Everton are leading the chase to sign midfielder Keisuke Honda from CSKA Moscow, who is set to leave the Russian club this summer.
The Japan international has caught the attention of several Premier League sides after impressing at the Confederations Cup for his country in the past few weeks.
Honda's agent was recently quoted as saying that his client was ready to leave CSKA and move to one of Europe's big leagues, with a switch to the Premier League his first choice.
He would be open to a move to Goodison Park as new boss Roberto Martinez attempts to build on the squad he has inherited from David Moyes ahead of the new season.
It is thought Honda, 27, could be available at a cut-price £3million because he is coming towards the end of his contract and the transfer appears to appeal to all parties.
